Cases of 3,269 missing persons disposed off, confirms commission on enforced disappearances

ISLAMABAD – The Commission of inquiry on enforced disappearances revealed on Monday that due to the efforts of Commission, 3269 cases out of 4929 cases were disposed off up to April 30, 2018.

Honourable Justice, Mr Javed Iqbal, presided over a meeting in Islamabad, where the performance of the commission was reviewed and participants were informed that in the last month, 50 cases were closed.

“The balance of enforced disappearances as on April 30th is of 1822 number,” it was informed.

According to a communique issued by the body, Mr Javed Iqbal, President of Commission of inquiry on enforced disappearances held 237 proceedings in Islamabad and 168 proceedings in Karachi; total 405 proceeding were held during the last month.

The Commission also categorically denied handing over of 4,000 Pakistanis to foreign countries, as falsely reported in a section of media in 2007, terming it absolutely baseless and having no reality at all.
