PM Nawaz leaves for Tajikistan to attend CASA-1000 inauguration

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for Tajikistan on Wednesday morning for a two-day official tour to attend the launching ceremony of CASA-1000 Power Project.

The groundbreaking ceremony of CASA-1000 power project will be held in Dushanbe on May 12 (Thursday).

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and the President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev will also be attending the ceremony.

During the visit, the Prime Minister and his Tajik counterpart will discuss other bilateral issues relating to trade, energy and defence cooperation.

Under CASA-1000 Project, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will supply 1000 MW of electricity to Pakistan and 300 MW to Afghanistan during the summer season.

The CASA-1000 Project is a pioneering initiative that will link the electricity grids Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The project to be completed by 2018.
