Abolishing visa fee, Pakistan formally launches new visa policy for 126 countries

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has officially launched the new visa policy facilitating visitors from 126 countries who would be able to get visas without much hassle.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday, Information Minister Atta Tarar highlighted that the policy, which has now been implemented, abolishes visa fees for citizens from 126 countries and simplifies the visa application process.

The minister explained that under the new visa policy, a standardized form with 30 questions would allow applicants to secure a 90-day visa swiftly.

As far as Gulf countries are concerned, the residents from the region will be able to obtain a visa on arrival by simply presenting their passport.

Noting that the doors of Pakistan are being opened for the world, the minister said Pkiatsn is blessed with every natural blessing.

Regarding the security concerns, the minister said security for incoming tourists remains a top priority, with the Ministry of Interior coordinating with provincial governments to ensure ideal arrangements.

The minister expressed that the tourism sector, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan, has seen substantial development, reiterating the government’s commitment to providing quality and affordable accommodation for tourists.

It is to be mentioned that in July, Prime Minister Shhebaz Sharif confirmed that the government is introducing major changes in the visa regime, adding that those visiting Pakistan from the selected 126 countries would not have to pay the fee for visas.

Talking to cabinet members during a crucial meeting, the prime minister said that the government had to decide between earning a few million dollars collected through the visa fees or promoting investment by exempting the visa fee completely.

‘A few of the members highlighted that Pakistan would lose around five to seven million dollars collected through visa fees annually,’ said the premier but hastened to add that if Pakistan is able to earn 50 million dollars through the collected efforts then it would be a landmark achievement.

A press release issued after the cabinet meeting confirmed that the federal cabinet approved the enforcement of an online visa application system for the citizens of 126 countries aimed at the promotion of business and investment activities and the tourism sector.
