Dr Farrukh Iqbal appointed as new Dean and Director of IBA Karachi

KARACHI (Staff Report) – Former World Bank Director Dr Farrukh Iqbal has been appointed as the new Dean and Director of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, according to a notification on Monday.

Sindh Governor and IBA Patron Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad in a notification maintained that under section 9(1) of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Act, 1994 (as amended), Dr Farrukh Iqbal had been appointed as the Director of the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi with immediate effect, for a period of four years.

In April this year, his name was finalized for the top slot of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) on the basis of his previous track record.

Dr Iqbal has more than thirty years of Research and Management experience in the World Bank across a diverse range of countries and sectors. During his career, he has worked on Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, China, Iran, Egypt, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

He has worked and published on various aspects of economic development including growth, poverty, small and medium enterprises, trade and foreign investment, health insurance, local government development, and political economy issues.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University, USA.

Dr Farrukh Iqbal has replaced Dr Sayeed Ghani as the Director of IBA Karachi. Earlier, Dr Ishrat served IBA Karachi as Dean and Director for eight years.
