CASA-1000 will provide cheap electricity: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Thursday that the CASA-1000 power project would help resolve the country’s energy crisis.

In an interview, he said the project would provide cheap electricity to Pakistan.

The minister said that a historic agreement will soon be reached between Pakistan and other governments for the supply of 1,000 MW electricity from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan via Afghanistan.

He said the project would bring a massive change in the energy sector, besides enhancing regional connectivity.

Khawaja Asif said that power generation was on schedule to reach thirty-one thousand MW by 2018 due to the government’s ongoing efforts.

In response to an unrelated question, he said that Pakistan has achieved tremendous success in the war against terrorism.
