LAHORE – Disney has revealed the first look of the character for its much-anticipated live-action film “Mulan”, showing Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, in the starring role. The production for the remake of the 1998 animated film is reported to have been started and will be taking place in China and New Zealand. The film is reported to be slated for March 2020 release.

The story of the ancient warrior is one of China’s most popular folktales and is still included as a part of the curriculum in Chinese schools today. The actress chose to play “Mulan” was a difficult task which involved interviewing nearly 1,000 candidates across five countries for the role.

According to the folktale, Mulan is a young woman who disguises herself as a man in order to stop her father from joining the military.
Apart from the remake of animated Disney movie Mulan, they are making remakes of other classic movies including Beauty and The Beast in 2017, The Jungle Book in 2016. Few other live-action remakes including The Little Mermaid, Snow White, and Aladdin, are reported to be in making.
