ISLAMABAD – Test skipper Misbahul Haq has strongly backed the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) move to retain Azhar Ali as ODI captain, saying that replacing team captain would never help Pakistan to improve ODI performance.
Talking to newsmen in Islamabad, where Islamabad United players gathered to celebrate their PSL victory, Misbah said that irregularities in domestic cricketing structure were directly responsible for declining ODI ranking.
“At domestic events, 4-day Test matches and T20 format games are given priority and there has been no effective schedule for one-day matches,” he went on to say.
He further added that when you only play Tests and T20s how can you expect perform up to the mark in one-day matches at international level.
To a question, the Test skipper suggested the board to make immediate measurements for improvement of the local cricketing structure.
“Alone captain cannot be held responsible for defeats, but other players and even the team management should equally share the burden,” he said.
He said that the practice of blaming the captains after every defeat should come to an end now.
