One killed, 20 injured as heavy rains lash Punjab

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Around 50 power feeders tripped in Lahore and power supply to different areas of the city disrupted as rainfall lashed the Punjab capital on Tuesday.

In various rain-related incidents across the province, a woman died and around 20 people were injured. Gull Bibi died in Samanabad area while her husband Sherin Khan and their five children sustained serious injuries when their house caved in due to intermittent heavy downpour.

Intermittent rainfall continuing in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, some parts of Lahore and Gujranwala divisions and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to Met Office, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Hazara divisions and the areas of Kashmir will receive rainfall tonight and the wet spell will continue till Wednesday.

The Radio Pakistan quoting the Motorway police reported continuous rainfall on the motorway from Peshawar to Lahore. The police has advised the commuters to drive carefully in rain.

The rough weather also disrupted flights from Islamabad to Gilgit-Baltistan. Gilgit weather department has forecast intermittent rain and snowfall over the hills during the next twenty-four hours.

A spokesperson of the met department has said that the heatwave has died down in Karachi and weather will remain pleasant in the metropolis during Eid days.
