No fissures in team, says confident PCB chief

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Dismissing reports about any fissures or grouping within the cricket team, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shehryar Khan on Monday expressed the hope that Pakistan would reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Addressing a news conference here, the PCB chief called on the team to follow the same approach as Imran Khan’s ‘cornered tigers’ had in the 1992 World Cup.

“We are in the same place today as we were in 1992 when we were facing difficulties to qualify for the quarter-finals.”

Team skipper Misbahul Haq, coach Waqar Younis and the entire management had admitted their shame over the team’s performance in the first two matches, he said, while adding, “No one will be made the scapegoat over the losses.”

“PCB fully supports the team and management,” Khan said as he argued that the team was playing under stress and fear.

Khan further said the team had expressed confidence following a meeting in Brisbane and he was hopeful they would be victorious against Zimbabwe and the UAE.
