Achu had reportedly fled to India after getting injured in an encounter with the Pakistani security forces 18 months ago.

Three gunmen tried to enter the consulate Friday morning but were stopped by guards at a checkpoint. Two of those killed in the attack were police officers.

All three attackers were also killed in the ensuing gunfight with security forces. A suicide jacket, arms and ammunition were recovered from the attackers.

All staff members of the foreign mission have been reported safe in the attack.
