COAS Gen Bajwa to chair meeting on security in Lahore today

RAWALPINDI – Following the deadly suicide attack in Lahore, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa is set to head a meeting at Corps Headquarters, Lahore today (Tuesday), local media reported.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations, the army chief has left for Lahore from Rawalpindi to discuss security issues in the high-level meeting.

On Monday, at least 26 people, including nine policemen, were martyred and more than 50 injured after a suicide bomber blew himself up on Ferozepur Road near Arfa Karim Tower.

Lahore police chief Capt (r) Amin Wains said the “police were the target”. He also confirmed that it was a suicide blast. However, sources believe it was a car bomb attack.

According to Rescue 1122, nine policemen are among those who lost their lives in the blast. The area where the explosion occurred is a busy locality near the office of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The chief minister was in a meeting at his Model Town office when the blast took place.
