ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has suspended an agreement between Nadra and Mastercard that would have enabled Pakistani nationals to carry out financial transactions and receive government funds using their computerised national identity cards (CNICs).
Earlier, this agreement was announced at World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017 held between January 17 and 20 in Davos, Switzerland.
Highlighting the reasons, the minister said that the agreement was made without a written permission from the government and analysing the sensitive security matters that required consideration before such agreements.
He also sought a reply from Nadra regarding the agreement, wanting to know how a foreign company could be given access to such a sensitive database.
