Shehbaz Sharif to attend NA session today amid NAB probe

ISLAMABAD – A session of the National Assembly has been summoned at 4 pm today which would be attended by former Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif as well.

Ahead of the session, Prime Minister Imran Khan has summoned a parliamentary meeting of his party to discuss the challenges faced by the incumbent regime in the backdrop of calls for opposition’s All Parties Conference (APC).

The leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif – who is currently in the National Accountability Bureau’s custody – will be produced on production orders by a team of the anti-corruption body.

Shehbaz Sharif also attended the last NA session on October 17 and made a fierce speech on the floor of the house, alleging that the sitting party was in an unholy nexus with the National Accountability Bureau.

Addressing the Parliament, Shehbaz also revealed the NAB probe and claimed that he was being asked to turn approver against the former foreign minister, Khawaja Asif.

The younger Sharif was arrested on October 5 after appearing before the NAB team. Though Shehbaz was summoned in the Saaf Paani Company case, his arrest was linked to the Ashiana-i-Iqbal scam.

The accountability watchdog said Shehbaz failed to satisfy the investigation team regarding a tender awarded to a private consultancy firm and was therefore taken into custody.

A NAB court in Lahore extended his remand till November 7th in the case.
