LAHORE – The government of Pakistan has released a list of people to be awarded civil awards this year on March 23, 2019. 127 awards on citizens of Pakistan as well as foreign nationals would be conferred by President Arif Alvi on Pakistan Day.
Cricketers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis will be awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz in the sports category. Film actress Babra Sharif will receive Sitara-i-Imtiaz while Mehwish Hayat will be conferred with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz.
Particularly Pakistani actor Mehwish will be awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by President Arif Alvi on Pakistan Day for her contribution in Pakistani cinema. Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, (Medal of Excellence), is a state-organised honour of the State of Pakistan. It is the fourth-highest decoration given to any civilian in Pakistan based on their achievements.
Mehwish recently gave an amazing performance in 2018 ‘Load Wedding’, which is still making waves ever since its release on Eid-ul-Fitr last year. Her pairing with Fahad Mustafa was much appreciated, always is appreciated actually. Her performances are no doubt less than magic and she is a confident lady that knows her worth. She is a true diva! But is the medal that easy to get?
Last year 2018 saw three Karachi doctors, two from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) and one from Aga Khan University Hospital, receive Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, announced by the then president of Pakistan, on Pakistan Day observed annually on March 23.
Going a little further before that, 2017 saw Tamgha-e-Pakistan’s receiver Mr. Muhieddine El-Tannir, from Islamabad (Services to Pakistan).
This year, are we keeping up to that competition or the medal has been loosely distributed? It seems like the latter.
From 2013 till 2018, these are the milestones Mehwish has achieved.

On the other hand there are many other actresses who are carrying out their acting career but also achieving a whole lot more when it comes to social work as well.
Armeena Khan has been actively advocating for social causes and charity work. Mahira Khan has represented women and her story of success at Cannes. Iman Ali has had a career of decades. Saba Qamar has been doing women centric roles, killing the concept of stereotyping and her imitation of Qandeel Baloch was on point. We wonder why the choice was Mehwish.
According to Twitter Mahira Khan should have been a better choice.
People are questioning.

Mahira is considered one of the Pakistan’s most popular and highest-paid actresses. She has received several awards.
In 2012, Khan was named as the Most Beautiful Woman in Pakistan. In ‘Sexiest Asian Women’ poll by Eastern Eye, she was listed tenth in 2015, ninth in 2016 and fifth in 2017, and was also called Pakistan’s sexiest woman.
Khan co-hosted the ceremonies of 10th Lux Style Awards in 2010, 1st Hum Awards in 2013 and 14th Lux Style Awards in 2015.
In December 2016, Khan became a victim of false news after anti-India comment emerged ahead of the release of her Bollywood debut film Raees.
She serves as an ambassador for a number of brands such as Lux, Q Mobile, Gai Power Wash, Huawei, Sunsilk, Veet, and L’Oreal.
