UPDATE: Army chief confirms death sentences of five militants

RAWALPINDI (Staff Report) – Chief of the army staff General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday confirmed the death sentences of as many as five more hardcore militants involved in targeted killing, said DG ISPR Major-General Asim Bajwa.

According to twitter feed of Bajwa another terrorist was awarded lifetime imprisonment.

All of these militants were involved in different events of targeted killing such as Lahore Advocate killing, Quetta sectarian killing, murder of police official in Gadab area of Karachi, attack on polio workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bannu jailbreak and attacks on girls schools.

Earlier on August 13 the army chief had confirmed death sentence of seven terrorists involved in Army Public School carnage and Safoora Chowrangi attack. The incidents left over 150 dead including 130 school children.

Country’s political parties introduced 21st constitutional amendment that allowed military courts to try civilians involved in terrorism in January this year.

1. Civilian Muhammad Sabir Shah alias IkramUllah S/O SherHazrat:
The convict was an active member of proscribed organization. He was found involved in abetting murder of Advocate Syed Arshad Ali in Lahore. He admitted his offence before the Magistrate and the Trial Court. He was tried on solitary charge and awarded death sentence.

2. Civilian Hafiz Muhammad Usman alias Abbas alias Asad S/O Ali Dost:
The convict was an active member of proscribed organization. He was found involved in Sectarian killings in Quetta and attack on police. He was convicted for killing and abatement for killing of Hassan Ali Yousafi, Advocate WaliatHussain and others civilians. He also abetted killing of two industrialists namely Syed Talib Agha and Syed Jawad Agha belonging to a particular sect. He was also convicted for attacking and killing four police persons, including DSP Hassan Ali, Constables Nasrullah, Sifatullah and Muhammad Taqi. He admitted his offence before the Magistrate and the Trial Court. He was tried on eleven charges and awarded death sentence.

3. Civilian Asad Ali alias Bhai Jan:
The convict was an active member of Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. He was found involved in possessing of fire arms/ explosives and attacking officials of the Sindh Police, in Quaidabad Area, Karachi which resulted in death of three individuals including DSP Kamal Mangon and ASI Akbar Hussain and injuries to nine individuals including three Head Constables. He admitted his offences before the Magistrate and the Trial Court. He was tried on five charges and awarded death sentence.

4. Civilian Tahir S/O Mir Shah Jahan:
The convict was an active member of Tehrik-e- Taliban Pakistan. He was involved in attacking /breaking of Bannu Jail owing to which number of terrorists managed to escape from the jail. He was also found involved in attacks on Law Enforcement Agencies which resulted in death of one soldier and injuries to another soldier. He admitted his offence before the Magistrate and the trial court. He was tried on three charges and awarded death sentence.

5. Civilian Fateh Khan S/O Mukaram Khan:
The convict was an active member of proscribed organization. He was found involved in slaughtering of a civilian, attacking polio workers team, individuals of Law Enforcement Agency and armed force personnel which resulted in death of a child, eleven Khasadars, two army officers, twenty two soldiers and injuries to one civilian, nine Khasadars and twenty five soldiers. He admitted his offences before the Magistrate and the Trial Court. He was tried on eight charges and awarded death sentence.

6. Civilian Qari Ameen Shah alias Ameen S/O Minar Shah:
The convict was an active member of Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. He was found involved in attacking on a Girls Primary School in Khyber Agency, providing funds for terrorists activities, exploding an Improvised Explosive Device and possessing explosives. He admitted his offences before the Magistrate and the Trial Court. He was tried on four charges and awarded the sentence of imprisonment for life.
