President Mamnoon, PM Nawaz condemn Charsadda attack

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University, Charsadda, directing the security agencies to clear the varsity at the earliest.

President Mamnoon held: “It is a cowardly act and the terrorists are out to undermine peace of the country but they will never succeed in their nefarious designs.”

PM Sharif, who is currently on a visit to Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum, expressed sorrow and grief on the loss of precious lives in the terror attack, in which at least 20 people have been martyred.

In a statement issued on Wednesday from Zurich, PM Nawaz Sharif said he is “deeply grieved” over the attack at the university.

“Those killing innocent students and citizens have no faith and religion,” the statement said. “We are determined and resolved in our commitment to wipe out the menace of terrorism from our homeland.

“We are determined in our commitment to wipe out the menace of terrorism from our homeland. The countless sacrifices made by our countrymen will not go in vain,” the prime minister added.

According to a PM House spokesman, the premier was personally monitoring the situation from Switzerland.

The prime minister also directed Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch and State Minister for Education Baligh ur Rehman to reach Charsadda, and extend maximum support to the provincial government and other law enforcement agencies.

Speaker and Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Chief Ministers of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh and PTI Chairman Imran Khan also condemned the terrorist attack.

PTI chief Imran Khan is also heading to the Bacha Khan University, following the attack. Before heading towards Charsadda, Imran Khan said: “I will visit the attack site to review the situation. I will review if we are at fault or not.”

“We are all on the same page, the whole nation stood united after the APS attack,” he added.

The PTI chairman added that KPK CM Pervez Khattak has been asked to return as soon as possible from Scotland.
