Terror alert in Islamabad: People asked to stay away from certain popular public spots

ISLAMABAD – Sources from the Interior Ministry told media that the security forces had received information indicating a suicide attack threat targeting popular public spots in Islamabad, including the famous Centaurus mall.

Intelligence agencies have warned the federal police that three to four terrorists could potentially attack public places in the capital city, according to a senior officer of the federal police.

He added that security of shopping malls and recreational parks had been strengthened, while police patrolling had also been increased.

60 policemen have been deployed for the security of the mall along with rangers and special branch personnel, he said.

In related news, almost two months ago, several universities in the capital were also on high alert and cordoned off, including the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) and National University of Modern Languages (NUML).
