Nawaz Sharif s statement on Mumbai attacks was misreported , says PM Abbasi

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi clarified Monday that former premier Nawaz Sharif’s recent statement regarding the Mumbai attacks was misreported by the Indian media.

PM Abbasi told journalists in Islamabad that he met Nawaz Sharif today. “He (Nawaz) clarified that his statement was broadcast out of the context. Indian media trumpeted the remarks of Sharif in the wrong way,” the PM added.

The premier’s presser followed a crucial meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) which discussed the situation arisen out of the former premier’s controversial statement on the Mumbai attacks in which more than 150 people were killed and over 300 others injured.

Abbasi informed the journalists about his follow-up meeting with Nawaz Sharif and said that the ex-PM asserted that he did not say what was reported about the Mumbai attacks.

Talking about NSC meeting which condemned Nawaz’s statement, Abbasi clarified that the top civil-military huddle dismissed those words which were misreported.

In response to a question on civil-military issues in the country, Abbasi said that misunderstandings generate everywhere but can be resolved by sitting together.

The premier asserted that it was his own decision to give the explanatory statement and no one pulled his strings to do so.

Expressing support for Nawaz, Abbasi said the entire party, including Shehbaz Sharif, stands with the PML-N supremo. “Nawaz Sharif is still our Quaid,” he reassured.

The PM further asserted that the government would complete its tenure at the end of this month.

Earlier today, the National Security Committee unanimously rejected the Indian allegations and condemned the fallacious assertions stemming out of a recent statement regarding Mumbai attacks, terming it ‘incorrect and misleading’.
