Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is set to visit Iran on Monday, with high-level meetings expected during his stay. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed the visit, saying it is aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, discussions during the visit will cover matters of mutual interest, bilateral cooperation and regional peace and security. Tehran described the visit as part of Pakistan’s continuing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
Army Chief’s visit to western neighbour remains in global sight with regional security, military tensions, economic pressure and bilateral cooperation all in focus, the high-level meetings could provide an important channel for dialogue.
The visit also comes as Islamabad continues to play its role in promoting regional peace and stability, making Asim Munir’s meetings in Tehran a closely watched diplomatic development.
The announcement comes at a particularly sensitive moment, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian saying that Iran remains in a state of war and is facing pressure on multiple fronts. Addressing a ceremony, Pezeshkian said Iran was confronting a full-scale economic, military and security struggle, while continuing to stand firm against tough US sanctions.
He described the conflict as an unequal war, saying Iran was attempting to withstand the pressure despite the difficult circumstances.
Pezeshkian also made a striking claim, saying the United States had attempted to turn Iran into another Venezuela but failed. According to the Iranian president, Iran’s adversaries wanted to see the country destroyed, but that objective was not achieved. Instead, he said, Iran had emerged through strong national unity as a power capable of “surprising the world.”
Pezeshkian also expressed hope that the difficulties facing the Iranian people would be overcome soon.
