Sikh policeman rescues Muslim youngster from lynch-mob in India

NEW DELHI – In a matchless show of solidarity with Muslims, a Sikh police officer staved off a bid of raged locals to lynch a Muslim boy who was allegedly caught with a girl in Ramnagar.

According to reports by Indian media, the couple met in a temple in Girija village on Tuesday but were caught by a group of violent men who were ready to beat him to death.

On the occasion, Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh sprung into action, fearing the frenzied mob may lynch him to death.

A video of Gagandeep’s dramatic rescue is stumping the social media, showing the cop confronting the group of men single-handedly; another police officer was also seen trying to dampen the emotions of the furious mob.

When the locals found it impossible to get hold of the boy due to police officer’s intervention, the group allegedly started chanting anti-police slogans.

After the rescue, the couple was brought to a nearby police station where the girl was handed over to the parents.

The boy was most likely to be tortured to death by the mob because when the girl asked a man why the boy was beaten up, the man allegedly responded: “We will chop him to pieces. You are a Hindu and roaming around with a Mulsim man. I will chop you too.”

Additionally, an officer from Ramnagar police station explained that two boys and a girl were sitting inside the temple which riled the worshippers who raised an objection, however, Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh was present on spot, who took control of the situation and rescued the boy from the spot.

Gagandeep Singh Speaks Up About His Entry

The officer, in a conversation with Indian daily, expressed that he has received messages of support as well as hate for his action.

“My main aim was to save the boy from being lynched by the crowd. I have received a lot of positive messages on social media and from the police department. However I have also received several hate messages,” he said.

Policeman’s valiant act has drawn numerous reactions on Twitter, with a landslide majority showering praise on Gagandeep Singh.
