RAWALPINDI – A traffic warden and a passerby were shot dead when a man opened fire following a dispute over a parking area in Rawalpindi’s Committee Chowk area, police said.
The incident occurred at around 7 pm on Tuesday when the traffic official barred the motorist from parking his car in a no-parking spot, riling him to the extent that he resorted to opening fire.
After the ‘crime of passion’, the people present in the area nabbed the suspect, seized his gun and started beating him up yards away from the Waris Khan police station.
Locals shifted the critically injured men to the DHQ hospital but they succumbed to their wounds. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination and an investigation into the incident has been launched by the police.
Soon the police arrived at the crime scene and arrested the accused.
According to Rawalpindi police spokesperson Imran Kazmi, a case had been registered against the accused under Sections 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code
The traffic police spokesperson Wajid Sati explained that the deceased traffic warden Shahid Sarwar was a resident of Kallar Syedan in Rawalpindi.
Tragically, the warden was a father of two and was recently reinstated into the traffic police force after having spent two years in Dubai, Dawn News reported.
The deceased was fasting when the incident happened – just 15 minutes before the Iftar time.
The passerby who lost his life was identified as Nisar and was the brother of Shahid Sarwar’s fellow traffic warden, Ikhlaq. He was a resident of Gujranwala and worked in Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazar as a tailor.
