Imran Khan expresses condolence over demise of ex-Indian PM Atal Bihar Vajpayee

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Friday expressed condolence over the demise of former Indian prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, said a statement issued by the party.

Vajpayee was among the prominent political personalities of this region and his efforts for improving ties between India and Pakistan will always be remembered, the prime minister-in-waiting said.

Former prime minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away on Thursday at a hospital in capital New Delhi, according to reports in India media.

The 93-year-old was admitted to All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on 11 June this year in a critical condition and had been at the facility since then. Vajpayee was suffering from urinary tract infection, lower respiratory tract infection and kidney problems.

The death of the renowned politician has created a big void in politics of the sub-continent, he said, adding that the departed soul had made efforts to normalise the relations between the neighbouring countries while holding the office of the foreign minister.

Vajpayee continued these efforts after becoming the prime minister of India and successfully taken his agenda to new heights, Khan added.

The PTI chief extended sympathies to the people of India over his death, adding that the services of Vajpayee can only be recognised by creating peace between the two countries.

Despite political differences, people of both sides desire peace between India and Pakistan.
