PESHAWAR – After two years, the annual Shandur polo festival will be held according to its old schedule from July 7.
According to an official of Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the festival will be organised from July 7 to 9, as for a couple of years the annual three-day event was shifted to July 29 due to floods and Ramazan.
The TCKP had started the arrangements and floated advertisements to attract tourists from across the world, he said, adding that officials from the Gilgit-Baltistan government would be invited to Peshawar to make the arrangements in order to facilitate the spectators.
Shandur Polo Festival is one of the big festivals in Pakistan. There are six players on each side, but this is by no means a rule in local polo games. The game lasts for one hour with a ten-minute break.
The polo which is played between the polo teams of Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral is a free-style polo match.
Passion for Polo will be the highest on the world’s highest Polo ground. Every year, Shandur invites visitors to experience a traditional polo tournament between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit.
The festival also includes Folk music, Folk dance and traditional sports.
