Womens T20 World Cup New Zealand Beat India By 58 Runs

DUBAI – New Zealand triumphed over India by 58 runs in a group stage match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 held in Dubai on Friday.

A strong opening partnership and a remarkable unbeaten 57 from Kiwi batter Sophie Devine helped New Zealand set the highest score of the tournament so far, leaving India with a target of 161 to chase.

India struggled throughout their innings, as wickets kept tumbling, and Harmanpreet Kaur’s side fell 58 runs short of their target, putting them in a challenging position in Group A.

The Indian top order couldn’t find momentum, with five of the top six reaching double figures, but none surpassing 15 runs.

Eden Carson caused early damage by dismissing both openers – Shafali Verma (2), Smriti Mandhana for 12.

India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur seemed in good form as she attempted to stabilise the innings, but was dismissed at the end of the powerplay, leaving India in tatters.

New Zealand bowlers continued to strike consistently, exposing India’s middle, lower order and ending the contest with ease.
