SRINAGAR – In Indian occupied Kashmir, thousands of people staged anti-India and pro-Pakistan demonstrations in various parts of the valley on Wednesday.
Immediately after Eid prayers people in large numbers took to the streets in Srinagar, Islamabad, Kulgam, Pampore, Pulwama, Sopore, Kishtwar and other parts of the occupied territory.
Hoisting Pakistani flags, they chanted slogans based on national Pakistani songs and called for freedom from Indian occupation.
The protesters demanded the immediate pullout of Indian troops from occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Call for the protests were given by the All-Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman Syed Ali Gilani, and other office-bearers including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik.
To thwart their calls for protest, Indian authorities arrested all the three leaders and a number of other Hurriyet members and also prevented them from attending congregational Eid prayers.
Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, in response, issued statements in Srinagar condemning the curbs placed on Hurriyet leaders.
They also urged the international community to play a role in ensuring the early settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
