WELLINGTON – Tales of resilience, valor and sacrifice are emanating out of one of the deadliest terror attacks in New Zealand, with a Bangladeshi woman’s story not to be missed.
Husna Ara Parvin was amongst the ones killed in the Christchurch shooting on Friday but the 42-year-old lady displayed matchless sacrifice while losing her life as she won the life of her husband amid the massacre.
Husna and Farid Uddin Ahmed married in 1994 and moved to New Zealand after a few years, and Husna used to wheel her husband to places around as he was paraplegic.
On Friday, the couple went to different sections of the Al-Noor mosque designated for men and women and when Husna was informed about the active shooting at the place where Farid was praying, she rushed to the spot.
As soon as Husna arrived at the spot with the gunman still wreaking havoc, she tried to shield her wheelchair-bound husband and in the meanwhile received bullets which proved fatal.
Her nephew Mahfuz Chowdhury told Bangladeshi locals that Farid was rescued by others in the mosque and was thus saved by the heroic act of his better-half; the couple have a daughter.
Husna Ara, originally from the village of Jangalhata in Sylhet’s Golapganj area of Bangladesh, was amongst the victims of the terror attack that sent shock waves across the world.
At least three Bangladeshis are among the 49 people killed in the shootings in two mosques at Christchurch. The international community, as well as the Prime Minister of New Zealand, has expressed solidarity with the Muslims around the world.

As many as 49 Muslims were martyred at two mosques in central Christchurch on Friday; forty-one people were shot dead at the Deans Ave mosque, seven were killed at the Linwood Ave attack, and one person shot in the second mosque attack died in hospital.
Earlier today, the Australian born right-wing terrorist appeared in a local court and was charged with murder following the terror attack which killed dozens of people in Christchurch.
The extremist, identified as 28-year-old Australian Brenton Harrison Tarrant, was to be remanded in custody after his appearance at the Christchurch District Court, with no bail requested.
