LAHORE — The largest internet search engine, Google used its doodle feature on Thursday paid tribute to Pakistan’s legendary cricketer Abdul Hafeez Kardar on his 94th birthday which is celebrated on January 17.
Google honours prominent personalities and occasions with special logos that it calls ‘doodles’. An image of a batsman playing a stroke on front foot has appeared on the searching site.
Born in Lahore on 17 January 1925, Kardar is widely known as the father of Pakistan’s cricket abd considered one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
Abdul Kardar was the first captain of the Pakistan cricket team and one of the only three players to have played Test cricket for both India and Pakistan, the other two being Amir Elahi and Gul Mohammad.
The former legendary cricketer played 26 Test matches, representing Pakistan in 23 of them and scored 6,832 runs, bagged 344 wickets in his first-class career.
The celebrated cricketer was honored with many awards, including the illustrious pride of performance.
Abdul Hafeez Kardar went into politics and served as the president of the Pakistan Cricket Board in the 1970s.
In later years of his life, he served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Switzerland.
Kardar passed away on April 21, 1996, in his home city of Lahore.
