Afghan Peace Dialogue: Quadrilateral Group meeting in Islamabad today

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The 5th round of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group for the proposed peace dialogue between the Afghanistan government and Taliban insurgents is set to take place in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Senior officials of Pakistan, China, the United States and Afghanistan will discuss the peace and reconciliation process in Pakistan’s western neighbor. The representatives will review the regional situation and consider the possibility of holding direct talks between the Afghan government and Taliban.

Talking about the meeting, Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that reconciliation process in Afghanistan needs to be given a fair chance and more time.

He said that Pakistan and the United States have been actively engaged in the quadrilateral group on Afghanistan.

He said the Afghan problem could not be resolved through military means.

On Tuesday Spokesperson for the Foreign Office, Muhammad Nafees Zakaria confirmed that Islamabad was hosting the quadrilateral group meeting, saying that it is aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict and implementing the road map prepared in previous meetings.
