Misbah, Yasir s rankings improve after first Test victory

DUBAI – A day after Pakistan won the first Test in Jamaica, Pakistan Test captain Misbahul Haq has seen his position in the ICC Test ranking for batsmen improve from 26th to 20th, thanks to an unbeaten 99 in the first Test against the West Indies.

The 42-year-old’s brilliant batting display helped Pakistan build a substantial 121-run lead over the hosts, which paved the way for the visitors’ triumph on the final day of the match on Tuesday.

In addition to Misbah, his deputy Sarfraz Ahmed‘s first innings knock of 54 also saw him climb up one place to move to 24th position, while young Babar Azam has scaled 14 places to reach 94th position after scores of 72 and nine not out in his two innings.

In the bowling department, leg-spinner Yasir Shah’s man-of-the-match efforts of two for 91 and six for 63 have lifted him one slot up to 15th, while left-arm pacer and first-innings hero Mohammad Amir has ascended 13 slots to reach 42nd after picking seven wickets in the match, which also includes career-best figures of six for 44 in the first innings.-Online
