NEW YORK (Usman Shami) – No meeting has been planned between the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan on the sidelines of 70th UN general assembly session, Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Aizaz Choudhry revealed addressing a joint press conference with Maleeha Lodhi- Pakistan’s envoy to the UN, thus quashing the rumors circulating in the Pakistani and Indian media.
Responding to a question, Mr. Choudhry further added that there is no contact between the two countries at any level regarding this issue and there is no probability of any such meeting happening.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in New York for the UN general assembly session earlier today and would begin his official engagements form Saturday morning.
He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would address the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday (Sep 30).
He further said the Prime Minister would highlight three points in his address to the UN General Assembly. He would project Pakistan’s efforts for promotion of regional and global peace and brief the global community about situation on the Line of Control and Working Boundary as well as the Kashmir issue.
Maleeha Lodhi laid out the details of Prime Minister’s visit. The PM would meet numerous world leaders during his 5 day visit to the US, including prime ministers of Germany, Italy, Turkey, Sri Lanksa, Nepal and South Korea.
Similarly, Prime Minister’s advisor on Foreign Affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz would meet his counterparts from more than 20 countries during the visit. PM Nawaz would attend a roundtable on Chinese president’s invitation on Saturday afternoon.
Mr. Aizaz reiterated that Pakistan would present a dossier regarding India’s interference during the UN general assembly, however, he avoided to reveal the details of the document or the mode of presentation.
To a query, he clarified that Pakistan had confirmation that India was preparing to build a wall along the working boundary and the Line of Control, that’s why letter was written to the head of UN security council by Pakistan’s envoy to the UN with the intention of bringing the issue on record.
“Building such a wall would be a violation of UN security council’s resolution and is not acceptable to Pakistan at any cost. If India actually goes forward with its plans, Pakistan would consider all options for the resolution of the issue”, Choudhry explained.
