LAHORE (Web Desk) – Former Pakistani Test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz has revealed how he taught former skipper Imran Khan the art of reverse swing.
“Imran Khan didn’t know about reverse swing. In 1974 when we (Pakistan) were playing against West Indies, Imran Khan came to me and asked how to swing the ball in reverse,” said Nawaz, the inventor of reverse swing, during an interview with Dunya TV.
“I told him ‘not during the match’ but will teach you ‘during net practice’ the next day.”
Sarfraz Nawaz also said the reverse swing delivery was kept a secret for years but was later on known to everybody. “One day I shined the ball from one side. That was the day I actually invented how to reverse-swing.”
On a question, he admired Imran Khan’s cricketing skills and on a lighter note added: “I know him more than his two previous wives.”
Sarfraz Nawaz and Sikander Bakht introduced reverse swing into international cricket during the late 1970s, and passed their knowledge on to their team-mate Imran Khan, who in turn taught the duo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
