Won’t resign despite repeated demands of conspirators : PM Nawaz stands his ground

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif affirmed on Thursday that he would not tender his resignation on the demands put forth by a group of ‘conspirators’.

Chairing a session of cabinet members convened days after the Joint Investigation Team apparently jolted ‘House of Sharif’ in its explosive report, the premier expressed that he had a clear conscience.

‘Present evidence of corruption committed during the stint of Shehbaz Sharif or me’ he noted during the session.

The premier expressed his concerns about the tone used in the report by the six-member Joint Investigation Team tasked to probe wheeling and dealing of the first family and stated that it was based on malicious intent.

He termed final report submitted by Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) as based on only assumptions and accusations.

Nawaz Sharif maintained that his family has been in the business world as early as 1937 when no member of the family was taking part in politics.

The prime minister’s remarks came in the backdrop of resignation demands by his main political rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and other forces including Pakistan Peoples Party.

Moreover, a group of lawyers had also sought the prime minister to leave office following a damning set of revelations about business dealings of Sharif family.
