NAB recovers Rs1bn assets from SBCA officer’s residence

KARACHI – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) raided the house of Deputy Director General Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) on Thursday night and recovered assets worth over Rs1 billion.

NAB officials raided the house of Adil Omer under the search warrant issued by a judicial magistrate and confiscated the available documents, cars and other valuables from his residence located at Block 6, Federal B Area.

Adil Umar one of the senior most director of the SBCA, got the charge as Deputy DG SBCA a day before the NAB conducted the raid.

The antigraft body said that Rs5.5 million cash/prize bonds, one Mercedes worth Rs8-9m, one Toyota worth Rs2.8m, Suzuki Swift and documents of Land Cruiser worth Rs22m, plots worth more than Rs500m, three properties in Dubai and bank accounts with available balance of Rs50m were found.

Sources privy to the matter revealed that the NAB would further extend the inquiry against Adil Omar and likely to arrest his subordinate Assistant Director Asim Siddiqui considered a close aide of Omer.

The accused has been inquired for allegations of accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income and living beyond means.

The NAB spokesperson said that the accused was not arrested as he was under interim bail granted by the Sindh High Court.

Earlier,  Hussain Lawai, a close friend of former President Asif Zardari and Chairman of the Board of Pakistan Stock Exchange was questioned by Federal Investigation Agency in money laundering case.
