ISLAMABAD – The country’s weekly inflation continued its upward trend, rising by 0.49% during the latest week, while inflation on an annual basis was recorded at 9.66%, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
According to the PBS weekly inflation report, the prices of onions increased by 14.17%, petrol by 3.77% and chicken meat by 3.35% during the week.
The prices of garlic and gram lentils also increased by 2% and 0.63%, respectively.
On a weekly basis, the prices of eggs fell by 5.78%, diesel by 5.15% and tomatoes by 4.99%, the report said.
According to the report, onion prices surged by 132.52% over the past year, while tomato prices increased by 93.21%. The price of wheat flour rose by 62.25%, LPG by 51.69% and diesel by 33.08% on an annual basis.
Meanwhile, the prices of potatoes declined by 30.01%, sugar by 19.10%, chicken meat by 17.68% and eggs by 17.41% over the past year, according to the PBS data.
