ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has categorically rejected the formulation of a parliamentary committee proposed by premier Khaqan Abbasi to look into the allegations hurled by Ayesha Gulalai against Imran Khan.
In a letter sent to the speaker National Assembly by PTI’s Chief Whip Shireen M Mazari on Monday, the party raised concerns about the credibility of the inquiry panel saying ‘political opponents can’t be accusers, judge and jury.’
“Such a biased committee will become a tool for victimizing political opponents in the future also and will set a bad parliamentary precedent,” the letter read.
The letter also suggested the appointment of an independent ‘Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards Office’ in line with the tradition of ‘mother of all parliaments’, British Parliament.
According to Mazari’s letter, the office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards deals with the application of the code of conduct and related rules that apply to the members of parliament.

Mazari stated that such Commissioner is appointed by House of Commons for a period of five years.
It is relevant to mention that premier Khaqan Abbasi had on Friday suggested a parliamentary committee probe to look into the allegations regarding ‘morality’ hurled by Aesha Gulalai against PTI chief Imran Khan.
On the other hand, Imran Khan had initially welcomed the development but the same day his party member denied that the cricketer-turned-politician was ready to face parliamentary committee.

In an explosive presser last Tuesday, Ayesha Gulalai, a member of National Assembly claimed that the culture being promoted by certain party leaders of PTI was not in line with Pakthtun cultural values.
“Women workers are not respected in the PTI and a respectable woman worker cannot remain in the party,” she alleged.
“Imran Khan once used deplorable words for Benazir Bhutto,” she said and added: “I think it is highly wrong to use such words for someone who has passed away. Even Islam teaches us not to say anything bad about people who have passed away.”
Gulalai, who unleashed a tirade of scathing allegations against PTI bigwigs including the chairman Imran Khan, revealed that she received a marriage proposal from Naeem Ul Haque while substantiating her claims that PTI was being disrespectful towards women.
Parliamentary Committee Challenged in IHC
A lawyer on Tuesday challenged the constitution of a parliamentary committee to probe into MNA Ayesha Gulalai’s harassment allegations against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
PTI rejects call for parliamentary probe over Gulalai’s allegations.
Riaz Hanif filed a petition against the committee in Islamabad High Court, naming National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Gulalai, Imran and Islamabad Inspector General of Police respondents.
The petition alleges that the parliamentary committee formed to probe into the matter is based on ill intentions, and will result in the waste of money and time.
