SRINAGAR – A complete shutdown is being observed in Indian-occupied Kashmir today (Saturday) against the Indian plans to abrogate Article 35A of Indian Constitution.
Apart from expressing anger towards Indian bid to convert the Muslim majority into a minority of the valley, the protest is being staged against the continued killing of Kashmiris at the hands of Indian forces.
The call for strike was given by Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
According to Kashmir Media Service, all shops, business establishments and educational institutions are closed while traffic is off the road.
The University of Kashmir (KU) and Board of School Education (BOSE) have postponed all the examinations scheduled to be held today.
Earlier, the locals and the activists of political and social organizations demonstrated at the Parade Ground Park in Poonch to raise voices against Modi regime’s attempts to fiddle with Articles 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution.
However, in South Kashmir, forceful demonstrations took place on Friday in Srinagar, Budgam, Sopore, Islamabad, Bijbehara, Kulgam, Pulwama, Tral, Shopian, Pattan, Hajin, Bandipore and the other territories against the killing spree by Indian troops.
The protesters were led by Hurriyat leaders including Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Umar Aadil Dar and Noor Muhammad Kalwal.
Protesters raised pro-freedom, pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans and unfurled Pakistani flags at various places.
As usual, Indian police resorted to brute force on the protesters in many areas, injuring several of them. The authorities continued to put Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mukhtar Ahmed Waza under house arrest or in custody to stop them from leading the protests.
