Meet the Oldest Living Cat
SALEM (Web Desk) - A 26-year-old cat named Corduroy has been named the oldest living cat by Guinness World Records.

The cat is owned by a family in the Oregon city of Sisters. His owner, Ashley Reed Okura, has had him since he was a kitten and she was 7.

Guinness World Records named Corduroy, a 26-year-old cat from Sisters, Oregon, as the world's new oldest living cat on Thursday, August 12, 2015. Corduroy celebrated his 26th birthday on August 1. Corduroy has lived with Ashley Reed Okura of Sisters, Oregon, since he was a kitten and Okura was 7 years old.

Okura told The Oregonian that Corduroy is still active and in good health, except for some kidney problems. He still hunts on the family's 160-acre (65-hectare) property.

For his birthday August 1, Okura bought him a 'live' white mouse and says he enjoyed it "right away."

The record-breaking feline previously held the record back in 2014, but lost out when the owners of Tiffany Two submitted a claim for the title. With Tiffany Two sadly recently passing away at the amazing age of 27 years, 2 months and 20 days, the record is now back in the hands of Corduroy.

Nevertheless, Corduroy is still a few years off the oldest cat ever, Crème Puff, who was born in 1967 and lived until 2005 - an incredible 38 years and 3 days (more than double the average life expectancy of the species).

The lifespan for most indoor cats ranges between 13 and 17 years.

"The secret has been allowing him to be a cat - hunting and getting plenty of love," Reed Okura said in a statement.
