Foreign players get hero s welcome in Lahore as thrilling PSL3 playoff today

LAHORE – After the initial matches of the Pakistan Supre League’s third edition ended in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the elimination matches will be played on March 20 (today) and 21 at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.

Foreign players belong to the Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, and Karachi Kings reached Lahore in the wee hours of Tuesday to rapturous fans waiting for them at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Except for Dwayne Smith and Dwayne Bravo, all foreign players of Peshawar Zalmi, including skipper Darren Sammy, Liam Dawson, Evin Lewis, Andre Fletcher, and Chris Jordan have arrived.

For Karachi Kings, Ravi Bopara, Tymal Mills, Joe Denly, David Wiese, Lendl Simmons, and Colin Ingram landed in Pakistan to participate in what is being termed as a revival of international cricket.

All the players reached the airport through different international airlines at different times. They were shifted to their hotel where they received hero’s welcome.

Chris Green, who is one of the Gladiators, said: “I’m very happy to be in Pakistan for the first time. Peshawar Zalmi have a big match today!”

Two players from Bangladesh – Mahmudullah (Gladiators) and Tamim Iqbal (Zalmi) – will soon reach Pakistan from Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera and Green of Australia, Yorkshire’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore, West Indian batsman Johnson Charles, and South African Rossouw will feature for Gladiators.

Further, except for Eoin Morgan,

All of the Kings’ foreign players – Joe Denly, Tymal Mills, Lendl Simmons and David Weisse – except for Eoin Morgan will also reach Lahore on Wednesday to play the second eliminator at Gaddafi Stadium.

First Playoff and Security Plans

In the first elimination match, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators are set to face each other. The winner will then face Karachi Kings in the second playoff to take place in the final on March 25 in Karachi.

Islamabad United has made his place in PSL 2018 final after beating Karachi Kings by eight wickets at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

Security plans for the match have been finalised under which streets and shots within a radius of approximately 3km from the stadium will be put on shut.

Traffic on Ferozpur Road, starting from Muslim Town to Kalma Chowk and Main Boulevard Gulberg from Hafeez Centre to Kalma Chowk, will be diverted to other routes.

Personnel of Pakistan Army, Rangers, police and other law enforcement departments will perform duties to ensure the security, while security cameras have been installed to keep an eye on the visitors.

Parking areas for vehicles have been alloted at some distance from the stadium. In order to facilitate the cricket fans, the Lahore Transport Company (LTC) will launch an exclusive shuttle service free-of-charge for today.
