KARACHI – Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has called for the release of a fan in India who was arrested for wearing a Pakistan team jersey with his name on it during a cricket match.
According to reports in Indian media, Ripon Chowdhury was apprehended by local police following a complaint filed by the youth wing of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
Terming the arrest as ‘shameful’, Afridi appealed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the release of the youngster.
“Politics should not be mixed with cricket. It’s is very sad and shameful. I hope the youngster gets released soon,” Afridi told Indian media. “There are a lot of fans of Indian cricketers in Pakistan and I don’t see a problem with it,” Boom Boom explained.-Online
