Afghanistan set record T20I score of 278 against Ireland

DEHRADUN – Afghanistan scored a record T20 international score of 278 in a thrilling match against Ireland in the Indian city of Dehradun on Saturday.

Hazratullah Zazai hit an unbeaten 162 off 62 balls with 16 sixes which is another record besides 11 fours in the free hitting innings. He fell short of mere 5 runs to beat Australia’s Aaron Finch’s total but was able to score a century in only 42 balls.

Irish bowlers were hammered by Afghanistan with captain Paul Stirling going for 24 in his only over.

The score humbled Australia’s 263-3 against Sri Lanka in Kandy in September 2016.

Ireland lost the contest by 84 runs and series as well. After the T20 contest, five-match one-day series between the countries would begin on Thursday.

Following the one-day series, the sides will then play a Test match at the same Dehradun venue starting on 15 March.
