Muslims celebrate Milad – the birthday of the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) – on 12th Rab’i al-awwal.
Rabi’ al-awwal is the third month in the Islamic calendar.
People in Pakistan decorate streets and main roads with flowers, colourful buntings and lights to celebrate the day.
Numerous mosques and government buildings have been illuminated with decorative lighting while security has been put on high alert in order to avoid any untoward incident on the occasion.
