Pak Pm Shehbaz Joins World Leaders At 79th Un General Assembly Opening

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is participating in 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) alongside several key ministers and officials.

The premier is slated to attend reception hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, where he will engage in informal discussions with global leaders. During the UNGA, PM Shehbaz met with Maldives President Dr. Muizzu, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing collaboration in areas such as trade, tourism, education, investment, and climate change.

Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and promoting economic growth, recognizing the collective responsibility of South Asian nations to foster regional peace and stability.

Islamabad has also shown support for UN’s “Pact for the Future,” which aims to revamp the multilateral system and tackle global challenges. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif addressed the Summit of the Future, calling for decisive action to uphold the commitments of the pact, especially in light of ongoing crises like those in Gaza, which hinder sustainable development.

The pact aims to improve global governance and tackle pressing issues such as sustainable development and technological advancement. Asif highlighted the urgent need to bridge the $4 trillion financing gap for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and called for reforms in the international financial system to better support developing nations.

He urged for enhanced representation of these countries in global financial institutions, equitable international tax practices, and necessary reforms in the World Trade Organization to advance development goals.
