Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has announced his retirement from international cricket.
During a press conference in Kanpur, India, ahead of the second Test on Thursday, former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan stated that the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held in Pakistan next year, will be his last ODI tournament, after which he will retire from international cricket by March 2025.
Shakib revealed that he had already retired from T20 cricket and had played his final T20 match for Bangladesh in the last T20 World Cup.
He further mentioned his desire to return home for a two-match Test series against South Africa in October to conclude his Test career with his last two Test matches in Bangladesh. He has expressed this wish to the Bangladesh Cricket Board, but if it doesn’t materialize, the upcoming Test might be his final one.
It is noteworthy that Shakib Al Hasan, associated with the party of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, faces allegations of murder in Bangladesh and has not returned to the country since the ousting of Hasina Wajid.
The experienced player has represented Bangladesh in 70 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 129 T20 matches since making his international debut in 2006.
