LAHORE – The Lahore High Court has reserved its verdict on a plea seeking to freeze assets of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif till completion of an inquiry against him by the National Accountability Court (NAB).
Barrister Javed Iqbal had filed three petitions in the court requesting that the title of ‘sir’ be taken back from Nawaz Sharif, his name be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) and his assets be frozen till NAB inquiry, in line with top court’s July 28th Panama Papers verdict.
The court had issued notices to the federation and Interior Ministry on August 22 and sought their replies by August 25 over the petition seeking the placement of Nawaz’s name on ECL.
The petitioner contended that Nawaz might leave the country due to the investigation against him by NAB.
On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif, who was disqualified by a five-member bench of the apex court for concealing his employment with Capital FZE, a firm owned by his younger son Hassan Nawaz, left for London on Wednesday to celebrate Eidul Azha and inquire after her ailing wife, Kulsoom Nawaz.
The Supreme Court in its verdict, that jolted ‘House of Sharif’ had also ordered to file references against him, after which NAB summoned him and his sons and daughter.
Taing the plea that Sharif’s did not show up before the accountability watchdog, the petitioner sought ECL embargo for the family.
The hearing was held by Justice Mamoon-ur-Rasheed while no date has been announced for the announcement of the verdict.
