ISLAMABAD – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was brought to an accountability court in the federal capital to complete his statement in a case pertaining to the ex-ruling family’s offshore assets.
Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Haris will conclude his arguments in the Flagship reference case a day after the former PM recorded his statements before accountability court judge Muhammad Arshad Malik. Sharif responded to 136 questions on Wednesday.
He will submit answers to the remaining four questions today.
Sharif has maintained that charges against him were politically motivated and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had presented its one-sided report. “No charges have been proved, still will submit the documents to the court,” he added.
During Wednesday’s hearing, the 68-year-old claimed that all the assets belonged to his son, Hassan Nawaz, as he had made these assets by himself but JIT wrongly named him the owner of the assets.
“Apart from Wajid Zia and investigation officer Kamran, no witnesses recorded statements against me. Both of them tried to frame me, both also stated that no such document was found which showed that my children were under my care,” he further added.
“When you landed in trouble, you did not ask your sons to give some documents in the case,” the judge questioned. He further asked Nawaz Sharif, “How was total investment done in the Flagship and why the case was filed against you”.
To this, former PM replied that his children used to buy flats and later sold them after decor. The judge remarked, “Through Hussain Nawaz, the money went to Hassan Nawaz, if Hussain had appeared before the court, the matter would have been resolved.”
Accountability Court judge further remarked that even if the Qataris had appeared before the court, the matter could have been resolved.
