ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Pakistani-British boxer Amir Khan on Sunday presented a championship belt to Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif as a gift on the behalf of the President of the World Boxing Council (WBC).
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Amir Khan called on the Army Chief on the occasion of Independence Day and appreciated him for his efforts for peace and security in Pakistan.
Khan told General Raheel Sharif that just like Pakistanis, international community also regards his anti-terrorism services.
He also handed over a special championship to Raheel Sharif as a sign of recognition of his services on the behalf of President of World Boxing Council Mauricio Sulaiman.
Earlier in 2014 as well, Amir Khan had called on General Raheel Sharif in Rawalpindi and expressed solidarity with armed forces after the Army Public School (APS) attack which left over 140 people dead.
It is also worth mentioning here that Amir Khan is World Boxing Welterweight Champion and was awarded the Laureus World Sports Award in 2005.
In 2011, Khan was also nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award after his victory over boxer Zab Judah. He was named the Best at Sport at the British Muslim Awards in 2013.
Amir Khan gained a huge of following in Pakistan for his Pakistani origin and services for restoring boxing in the country. He also plans to establish a boxing academy in the Pakistan.
