PM Abbasi proposes parliamentary committee investigation into Gulalai s allegations

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi stressed the need for a special investigative committee to look into the allegations hurled by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s former member Ayesha Gulalai against Imran Khan.

Speaking on the floor of the house on Friday, Abbasi expressed that the issue relates to two lawmakers and to uphold the sanctity of the house, it needed to be resolved.

He proposed the formation of a committee which would probe the matter without publicising anything giving a fair chance to both the accuser and Imran Khan before presenting its report to the house.

He assured both the accused and the accuser they would be respected, adding that the PTI chief had the “right to defend himself”.

Abbasi also assured MNA Gulalai of round-the-clock protection after she claimed on television that she was scared for her life.

The premier claimed that he had ordered Inspector General Police Islamabad to provide security to the legislator.

In an explosive presser on Tuesday, Gulalai claimed that the culture being promoted by certain party leaders was not in line with Pakthtun cultural values.

“Women workers are not respected in the PTI and a respectable woman worker cannot remain in the party,” she alleged.

“Imran Khan once used deplorable words for Benazir Bhutto,” she said and added: “I think it is highly wrong to use such words for someone who has passed away. Even Islam teaches us not to say anything bad about people who have passed away.”

Gulalai, who unleashed a tirade of scathing allegations against PTI bigwigs including the chairman Imran Khan, revealed that she received a marriage proposal from Naeem Ul Haque while substantiating her claims that PTI was being disrespectful towards women.
