GURUGRAM – A man in India killed his wife for her excessive addiction to Facebook and WhatsApp.
Deceased, identified as 32-year-old Luxmi, was sleeping at her home on last Thursday when her husband Hariom strangled her wife to death.
Harim, who is 35-year-old, was arrested on Friday by police. During the interrogation, he revealed that he was fed up with his wife for her use of social media on her smartphone. He said that Luxmi had started ignoring him and their children, adding that she was not concentrating on fulfilling her duties as wife and mother due to her addiction.
Hariom revealed that starting years of his marriage with Luxmi was fine but the situation started worsening when he purchased her a smartphone. He said that his wife even stopped cooking meals for the family and did not help the children in their studies. “She spent days and nights on Facebook and WhtaApp,” Times of India quoted the accused as saying.
“I initially ignored all, thinking she would soon get bored with all these but things only got worse. We were fighting every day and the children were also under stress,” he added.
The accused continued that he was forced to send his kids – an eight-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son — to a boarding school in Kurukshetra due to her negligence.
But, Luxmi did not change his behavior and event started spending more time on the phone, he added.
“She would never let me see her social media accounts. I suspected she was having an affair online. We again had a big fight on Thursday night and when we went to sleep, I knew I could not take it anymore,” Hariom told police.
An FIR against Hariom was registered under Section 302 of the IPC at Sector 10A police station on the complaint filed by Luxmi’s father. He was produced before a local court on Monday where he was sent of judicial remand.
