Nawaz Sharif, Maryam jet off to London

ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif  and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday left for London to visit ailing Begum Kulsoom Nawaz who is undergoing cancer treatment.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday after her condition deteriorated again.

The former first lady was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. Doctors, however, said the type of cancer she was suffering from was treatable.

According to their ticket information, both father and daughter will return to Pakistan on April 22.

However, Maryam Nawaz in a tweet said that they will return before the next hearing of the accountability court if the exemption was not granted.

As many as three corruption references had been filed against the Sharif family, on the directives of the top court which pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.

On Tuesday, the accountability court adjourned the hearing of Avenfield case until April 20 and Al-Azizia Steel Mills case until April 23.
