During his visit, he is set to meet President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.

The statement comes days after Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with the UN secretary general on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

Highlighting the grave human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir, the foreign minister called on Guterres to play his role in resolving the decades-old dispute between India and Pakistan.

According to an official statement, the foreign minister voiced Pakistan’s serious concern over the plight of the people in Indian Occupied Kashmir as evidenced in the damning report of the UN Human Rights High Commissioner.

He stressed the need for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

The Foreign Minister also referred to the jingoistic rhetoric from New Delhi, and asked the Secretary-General to urge India not to embark on any misadventure, the statement said. Guterres is due to visit India in the first week of next month. FM Qureshi expressed Pakistan’s desire to engage with India for lasting peace in the region.
